Welcome to my first coupon brag on My Income Journey. I want to start coupon bragging to show you a realistic view of how my non-extreme couponing works. If you haven’t yet, read my article “How to Coupon Without the Extreme” to get a detailed description of how I save money on groceries.
Let’s be real, this week wasn’t an amazing week for coupons. I did still score a few good deals so I’ll share those with you here.
I got 10 cases of Sheba cat food, 3 packages of strawberries, and one power bar for only $3.25. Here’s how it worked out:
Sheba Cat Food: regularly $7.50/10, on sale for $5.00/10. I had a Red Plum July 17th coupon for buy 5 get 5 free.
Total Spent: $2.50, Regular price $7.50.
Driscoll’s Strawberries: regularly $3.99, on sale for $1.25 (love the summer fruit sales!!), I had three driscoll’s panel survey coupons for $0.50 off one package, my grocery store doubles coupons up to $1.00 so I get $1.00 off per package.
Total Spent: $0.75, Regular Price $11.97.
Power Bar: regularly $1.00, free Kroger Friday Download (although it was actually supposed to be a Gatorade Power Bar, but they were out so they let me substitute the Power Bar brand).
Total Spent: $0.00, Regular Price $1.00
Final Total: $3.25
Regular Price Total: $20.47
Savings: $17.22 or 84%
I took advantage of a few other okay deals, but not much else that was brag worthy. Back to school snacks and drinks should be on sale soon so I’m looking forward to those savings! In addition to coupon and sales savings, I have $.70/gal of gas on my Kroger loyalty card that I need to use by the end of the month, plus I use a special gift card that gives me 5% back towards my daughter’s gymnastics expenses, and I use a credit card that give 3% back on groceries. All these small savings add up and take very little time or effort. Be sure to utilize all the savings your store offers, plus sales, plus coupons, plus apps like ibotta to become a successful deliberate shopper.

Wow – Incredible!
Always so fun to see different ways people save money. As I’m a student, I’m trying to get new ideas.
Nice savings! I used to coupon a lot but have fallen off track in the last several months. I really need to look back into them. Thanks for the tips!
